Processing kumara which come off the fresh pack line are sent to Turiwiri Produce's processing plant, a venture set up to further add value to kumara for the benefit of all growers that supply Turiwiri Produce Ltd.

It provides a mechanism to bring to the hospitality industry a range of free flow frozen, peeled and waste-free kumara for instant use in busy kitchens.

A steam peeler is used to produce a chemical-free, peeled and stabilized kumara product to either further process or freeze for convenient use.

Both the Kumara Chip and Kumara Yummo (a natural whole peeled baby kumara ranging from 6-20 grams) have been precooked using a method unique to Turiwiri Produce Ltd Processing Division, giving the hospitality industry its first completely healthy oil-free fast food, which can be reheated in as little as four minutes. They are packed in a convenient free-flow frozen 5 kg bag.

The Gourmet (25-65 gram) and Nibbles Kumara (6-25 grams) are a peeled, uncooked whole kumara ready for use and are packed conveniently free-flow frozen in 10kg boxes.

These products have become increasingly popular with the hospitality industry for their convenience and versatility.

Customers should also be aware that pumpkin and buttercup are available in peeled, free flow, frozen portions, packed in 10kg boxes.
